I think it is looking for that he behaved honorably by giving every gift that he received from Hrothgar to the King of the Geats. It says in lines 2177-2179 "Thus Beowulf bore himself with valor; he was formidable in battle yet behaved with honor and took no advantage;" -Heather C
The poete is voicing his approval for Beowulf's descision when he says that Beowulf unselfishly gave everything he had earned to the king, even though he had not been vauled before he left, he still did what was right.
